HOUSING ASSOCIATION CASE STUDY
Reducing technical debt through consolidation of housing management data
The Challenge
Following organisational change, the data landscape included multiple legacy SQL-based sources with overlapping structures and transformation logic that had grown over time. This increased complexity, made change harder to deliver safely, and slowed reporting improvements.
The Solution
A phased consolidation was delivered in collaboration with the internal data engineering team to simplify structures, streamline transformation logic and modernise the reporting layer.
This included:
Consolidating tables, views, stored procedures and removing duplication
Refactoring complex transformations into a more maintainable structure
Designing a modern Power BI semantic model to replace the existing SSAS solution
The result was a simpler, more resilient data foundation that supported scalable reporting and enabled future development without reintroducing complexity.
The Impact
- Significant reduction in technical debt
- Improved maintainability and change agility
- Modern Power BI semantic model replacing legacy SSAS
- Faster development and safer iteration of reporting
- Stronger foundations for future analytics and insight
“Jason was innovative, diligent, and a genuine pleasure to work with throughout a complex and high-risk piece of work.”
